The Relais is located in “The Piceno” an area located on the 43 ° parallel north, in a hilly area of the Marche region, protected and defined as “areas of significant landscape value”.
The Piceno is a world unto itself, far away from major communication routes and abounding with Renaissance villages and country homes. Many are still inhabited by the indigenous community of ancient sharecroppers, with a few lucky tourists enjoying the silence and splendor of the area. It is also the main wine growing region in Le Marche. From the hills overlooking the Adriatic Sea, to the Monti Sibillini National Park, the landscape is characterized by vineyards that alternate with olive groves and small traditionally farmed land holdings.
Diana, our mother, and Guido, our father, are newly wed in 1963! As the years pass, our parents are married and the house number changes but our home remains the same.
Growing Up: Marilena as a young girl posing with her grandparents, Maria and Giovanni, in the garden in front of the residence.
Colour photos appear in the 1970s. Marilena and Paola, the sisters, are with their cousins, Isabella and Giandomenico, in the garden. Beautiful summer vacations were enjoyed at the estate.
In 1985, the residence evolves. The renovation is finally complete: a layer of cement over the traditional bricks and brand new blinds. Our dogs, Joghy and Gretel, wag their tails in the square.
Years pass, and after a decade, we restructure the Cocci Grifoni cellars located beside the family home. Little Marta and Camilla are pictured here in the flower garden, during the summer of 2000.
In 2004, the dwelling with Terrace and Cellar is almost complete. We see in the photo a step back in time with the small garden attached to the house.
Here we are in 2016! We have achieved our dream: welcoming friends who come from afar, to enjoy great comfort and beauty while spending some time in our land and discovering how our wine is born.
The Panoramic Terrace of Relais overlooks this enchanting vista and has two rooms both overlooking the panoramic viewpoint with seating for about 50 in each room.
One room has a large screen and PA system with kitchen service for small or big business events and weddings.
Here it is always possible to taste good wine and experience the view.
Our 45 hectares of vineyards are surrounded by woods and the land is cultivated in olive groves and grains. The “Mother Vines” of our autochthonous grapes, that are between 30 and 35 years old, are cultivated with Pecorino, Montepulciano and Sangiovese varieties. These are our historical vineyards: the “Messieri”, “Colle Vecchio”, “Vigneto Madre”, and “Grandi Calanchi” Vineyards and are almost entirely surrounded by canyons, ravines and woods with a gradient often greater than 30%.The vineyards are located close to inaccessible areas dominated by 100-meter-high clay cliffs. These barriers help create our special ecosystems. The environment of these fragile and complex microcosms is conducive to the repopulation of native fauna and flora and leaves ample space, both in terms of land and air, for the free passage of animals and the proliferation of insects useful for the biological cycle of the grapes. Here it is possible to do trekking along the bird trail in the areas recommended by Lipu (Italian League for Birds Protection) as biodiversity origins or simply walk, sit for a picnic and enjoy a pre-packed lunch created by the Relais.
