Wine for Life
“Wine for Life” is a combined project of Tenuta Cocci Grifoni with LIPU (Italian League for Bird protection) striving to explore and improve the biodiversity, especially the avifauna, in our Estates.
Led by expert ornithologists, the area has now been mapped and documented and these scientists have studied environmental “good practices” to highlight the most efficient actions for the conservation of species. The distances between rows of vines, the conservation of empty trees, the construction of nest case and the herbaceous covering of soil are all areas that are being addressed.
The study has mapped the most interesting vineyards for avifauna observation. High grass land and the absence of chemical treatments create an ideal environment for nesting of some species. In these areas we will create a Bio-Watching Path and offer informational panels for visitors.
“The collaboration with LIPU”, as expressed by Marilena and Paola Cocci Grifoni, owners of the estate, “allows us to understand, more fully, the land that we have lived within for generations. This knowledge enhances our products while protecting the landscape, and environs, that surrounds us. In 2019 we will also create, together with LIPU, a thematic route that the guests of our estate can traverse. They will be able to explore the vineyards, olive groves, wheat fields and gullies amidst the winged inhabitants.”
